Texas Hold'em Poker - Poker Betting |
Let's apply superhero force to learning the fascinating game of Texas Hold'em Poker. Most Texas Hold'em poker games begin with two players placing out a certain amount of money so that there is a pot to play for. This process is called “posting the blinds”. Like any regular card game, Texas Hold'Em Poker is played with a regular 52-card deck.
To begin the game, each player is dealt two cards, facing down. (These are known as hole or pocket cards.) What follows is a round of betting known as the pre-flop. Players have the option to raise, check or fold. At the end of the betting round, the dealer discards the top card of the deck. This card is known as a burn card. It is discarded to prevent cheating. |

Following that, the dealer flips the next three cards face up on the table. These cards are known as the flop. These are communal cards that can be used by anyone in combination with their two pocket cards to form a poker hand.
There is another round of poker betting starting with the player to the left of the dealer.
After the betting is done, the dealer burns another card and flips one more onto the table. This is called the turn card. Players can use this sixth card now to form a five-card poker hand.
The player to the left of the dealer begins another round of betting. In many types of games, this is where the bet size doubles. To conclude the Texas Hold'em Poker game, the dealer burns a card and places a final card face up on the table. This is called the river. Players can now use any of the five cards on the table or the two cards in their pocket to make a five card poker hand.
There is one last betting round beginning with the player to the left of the dealer. After that, all of the players remaining in the game begin to reveal their hands. This begins with the player to the left of the last player to call. It's called the showdown. The player with the best hand wins! There have been cases where players with equal hands share the winnings. |
